SETTLING IN

There are very few surviving records that describe or depict the experiences of Italian migrants who came to live on the South Coast of England after the Second World War. The project so far has been formed by piecing together what little sources there are and by speaking to members of local Italian communities. The results so far can be explored below...

What jobs did Italian migrants do? What was the work like?
Where did migrants live? What sort of home and family life did they build?
What was it like? What was the reception towards Italian migrants from local communities?
What customs and cultural practices did migrants bring? What happened when Italy became a commerical success?
